Misconceptions

Understanding the Roofing Warranty Certificate can be crucial for homeowners. However, several misconceptions often arise regarding its terms and coverage. Here are eight common misunderstandings:

  1. This warranty covers all types of roof damage. Many believe that the warranty protects against any and all damage. In reality, it only covers issues related to substandard installation, not damages from natural disasters or other external factors.
  2. The warranty is automatically transferable. Some homeowners think they can transfer the warranty without any formalities. However, the warranty must be requested in writing and signed by both the transferor and transferee to be valid.
  3. All repairs are covered under the warranty. It's a common misconception that any repair will be handled at no cost. The warranty only covers repairs resulting from workmanship issues. Homeowners will incur charges for repairs due to other causes.
  4. The warranty is valid indefinitely. Many assume that the warranty lasts forever. While it offers lifetime craftsmanship coverage, it is only effective for the life of the roof, which is typically defined as a 50-year period from the warranty issue date.
  5. Roof cleaning is optional. Some people think that cleaning the roof is not necessary for warranty validity. In fact, the warranty requires cleaning every two years, or as determined by MCS Roofing, to remain in effect.
  6. Delaying problem reporting has no consequences. Homeowners might think they can report issues at their convenience. However, failing to promptly notify MCS Roofing can result in the warranty becoming null and void.
  7. The warranty covers damages from structural issues. There is a belief that structural problems with the building will be covered. In truth, the warranty excludes damages arising from structural movement or failure of the underlying roof deck.
  8. Any contractor can perform repairs without affecting the warranty. Some homeowners may think they can hire any contractor for repairs. However, using unauthorized personnel can void the warranty, especially if repairs alter or tamper with the roof.

Being aware of these misconceptions can help homeowners make informed decisions regarding their roofing warranty. Understanding the specifics of the warranty is essential for maintaining its benefits and ensuring peace of mind.
