Below is a list of these important documents.

  • I-20 Form: This is the Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status. It is issued by the student's school and confirms their enrollment in a program of study. The I-20 must be updated to reflect the student's STEM OPT extension.
  • Form I-765: This is the Application for Employment Authorization. Students must submit this form to USCIS to apply for work authorization under the STEM OPT extension. It is crucial for legal employment in the U.S.
  • Employer's Letter: A letter from the employer detailing the job offer, including the position, responsibilities, and how the role relates to the student’s field of study. This letter supports the I-983 by demonstrating the relevance of the training.
  • Bill of Sale Form: This legal documentation is essential for transferring ownership of personal property. To get started, you can use the Missouri PDF Forms for an easy and accurate completion of the form.
  • Proof of Employment: Documentation such as pay stubs or a job offer letter that verifies the student’s employment status. This can be helpful if the student is already working under the initial OPT.
  • SEVIS Fee Payment Receipt: A receipt confirming payment of the SEVIS fee, which supports the student’s visa status. This fee is required for students on F-1 visas and is part of maintaining legal status in the U.S.

Gathering these documents can seem daunting, but each plays a vital role in the STEM OPT application process. Ensuring that all paperwork is complete and accurate will help facilitate a smoother transition into practical training and employment in the United States.
